Timeless- my blast from the past!!

I ran into an old friend today. We used to work together and as I had not seen her in at least 6years,my initial reaction was "my God,how do I look"-an instant image inventory. I soon realised I was wearing an old leopard print shirt-teamed with black tee, black pants, and black sandals. Accessories..pearl earrings and a tan bag-by who?? I will have to give you the particulars later). I went into a "why-did-I end-up-choosing-this outfit-today-of-all -days-mode". You see, back then,my leopard print shirt was still new and I loved it back then as much as I love it now. Only back then,I was still minus the few extra pounds that are on me now, compliments of a sluggish lifestyle and a lazy job. Am not going to go about an excuse rant as to why I have let myself go(a little bit) that's a whole new blog, for another fine day.

Well, all of these details registered in the distance between my eyes setting on hers and recognition, and walking or is running-like, towards each other. Which,If you pushed me for a time frame, would put it right down to no less than 20seconds max. I stopped thinking and had to focus on the moment. What came next can be short of an exaggeration but, it took me off guard as well.

"Girrrrl, where have you been?? You'd think after all these years you would be fat, with a baby-bearing tummy, a bit aged and well, looking more your age. But noo, you're looking faaab honey(and yes,I do mean fab, dragged out in speech like that). Wow, I love that shirt! You know, you never got to it all those many years ago but I did ask that you should take me shopping and show me the ends you get your staff. I like the way you put all these pieces together. You know, you could be my personal "Gok Wan". And she did do the hand thing -complete with the virtual inverted commas too, ha ha! (Shout out and kudos to Gok by the way).

Laughs and hugs and a bit of modest thwarts of "really, I don't look so great!!". In my mind, I'm playing the scene of how this would have all played out if I had gone for that outfit I had out, ditched at the very last minute as I rampaged through my shoe boxes(yes,I keep all my good pairs in their boxes) and no joy in finding the pair I had in mind for the outfit. Well, I had to quickly snap myself back to reality-to the here and now, to the wake of the fact that even in my rushed last minute decision, my ensemble still rose to such high aplomb! Even when you think you're having an "oh whatever" day, you still manage to look good. Which goes to show, when you go it, you just got it. (:)

Blast from the past or new-in, some pieces are never really down and out. Standing the test of time, competing with the latest fads, vintage, old or new, that's a true sign of a fashion piece that is well worth your salt. Here are some of my favs, which are very current- against my own that is still up there with all the rest of them..

M & S does chic with this simple but workable tie-neck shirt. Can be teamed with tailored pants or for the more casual look(like me), wear it with black leggings/treggings/jeans, black tee and wear the buttons loosely from the top.
Ms B working the look as she takes a stroll. I love this look as she's dressed it down with flat sandals and the pile-on jewellery. Screams working it but not too trying.
Love, love, loving this colour block tee. So in and very versatile. You can achieve a great many looks with this one piece. Say cheese ( with Orange)
My Girrl Nicki does her usual outrageous. Rrrrrrrrrrrrroar!!!! check out the matching hair. That pink shade of lips, she's pulled if off effortlessly.

Robeto Cavalli is in there with the fashion stakes. This is the most pricey of all my pieces but with a tag like that, im definitely going "ape" about town in it!

  2. Lol indeed. I knew someone would pick on her rather eccentric taste. I will personally see to it that some Minaj funds will find their way to the Serengeti....
